Burraq & Shahpar Pakistani Drones Handed Over to Air Force & Pak Army – Pakistani Defence

RAWALPINDI: The first indigenous drone fleet was handed over to the armed forces of Pakistan here on Monday, while the Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani has said that the induction of the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will further increase the surveillance capabilities of the armed forces of Pakistan – ARY News reports.

According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), UAVs named as ‘Burraq’ and ‘Shahpar’ were handed over to the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Burraq  is an advanced unmanned combat aerial vehicle (UCAV) developed by a venture of PAF and the NESCOM, a civilian defence research and development organisation. The name Burraq refers to a type of winged steed, described as a creature from the heavens which transported the Islamic Prophet Muhammad – Isra and Mi’raj.
